A Tunisian presidential spokesman has reiterated Tunisia’s opposition to “any form of military intervention as advocated by the Arab League” in the Syrian crisis, the state-run TAP press agency reported on Monday.
Tunisia calls for a political solution in Syria and will not support any military intervention due to the special situation in the country and the military intervention’s consequences on the region, the spokesman said.
He also excluded any intention by Tunisia to provide arms to the Free Syrian Army, an armed militia against the Syrian government, as it would be “tantamount to a foreign intervention as well as a military intervention in Syria.”
Tunisia’s efforts will aim at unifying the Syrian opposition, he said.
Referring to the Friends of Syria Conference held last week in Tunis, the spokesman noted that the conference did not adopt any ” final declaration” or “recommendation” as was initially expected by the media.
